Rev. War: Private from Plympton, Ma. 1775, 78 & 80.

From land transfers at Granville, Hampden Co., Ma. it would appear that Seth

removed from that town after the death of his father, Salathiel probably about 1800,

after living there about 20 years. This being the case it would appear that the

children of Seth with the exception of Isaac who was b. at Southampton, N.Y. were

all born at Granville. There is no record at Granville.

Probated records dated Feb. 4, 1813 show administrator Isaac Bumpus: heirs,

Biog. Ref. Madison Co., N.Y., Smith: Jesse, Abner and Seth, brothers, lived in the

Research by LAB: Gravestones in the Nelson Rural Cem., Nelson, N.Y. say: Mrs.

Experience wife of Seth Bumpus died Aug. 25, 1842 in her 80th year.  Seth Bumpus died

May 29, 1812 aged 59 years. (This disagrees with the statement by CHB that both are

buried in Welch Cem. I have been there and actually copied the information from the

gravestones that are still standing 1980.)

         Seth Bumpus (g.p 5.33) was a Rev. War soldier, private from Plympton 1775, 1778 & 1780.

Seth Bumpus purchased property in the Town of Cazenovia, N.Y., Co. of

Aschel Jackson, per indenture dated 2-23-1799, sealed and delivered in the presence

James was b. at Plymouth Co., Ma., m. at Wallingford, Vt., d. at Wallingford, Vt.

Burials at Wallingford, Vt. They resided at Wallingford, Vt., settled there about 1773.

Rev. War: Lieu. Abram Ive's Co., Militia, Col. Eben Allen's Reg't. Oct. 12 to 31, 1788.

   Abraham Jackson's Co. Wallingford, Vt., Col. Thomas Lee's Reg't. Oct. 14 to 21, 1781.

All three of the above were with his brother Edward Bumpus.

At Wallingford Cemetery there are stones for Lydia, wife of James and

for his s. Salathiel and for Salathiel's wife Abigail but there is no stone for James.

There is a space for it between the stones of Lydia and his wife and his dau. Lydia.

It would appear that the stone has been broken and not replaced. New England Gen.

states James was b. 1743 in Plymouth Co., Ma. as does the Bible record of Salathiel,

his s. The 1830 census record at Wallingford states that he was between 70 and 80.

The 1840 record does not show James but it does show 1 male living with Salathiel as

80 to 90. if the census record is right and if he was 89 as the Salathiel Bible states

he must have been born in 1753 not 1743. If James(g.p 5.156) above was b. Mar. 10,

   1743, his father Edward 4, b. Mar. 22, 1726 would have been only 16 yrs., 11 mo's. and

20 days old when James 5, was born. Not likely. (But possible).L.A.B.

Early records at Wallingford are Bumpus, Cemetery records are all Bump.

Salathiel Bump's Bible records are Bumpus.
